Warped Betamax footage of WWE star Goldust doing strange things with a mask may seem unusual on paper, but when paired with the sound of “Hairspray Heart” by Black Moth Super Rainbow, it makes a whole lot of sense. “Hairspray Heart” is from the album Cobra Juicy, available now on Rad Cult.
Simian Mobile Disco have often blurred the lines between live visuals and the music video format, and their latest video for “Species Out of Control” continues this trend. Described as a mix between David Lynch’s Lost Highway, and late 80s rave visuals, it’s fascinating and a little disorienting to watch. “Species Out of Control” is taken from the new album Unpatterns, out now on Wichita Recordings.
Experimental collective Black Moth Super Rainbow are currently running an awesome Kickstarter to fund their next album, Cobra Juicy. With funding now at 266% of their original goal, today they shared the video for the first single “Windshield Smasher”, directed by Bo Mirosseni. Cobry Juicy will be released on October 23 via their own label Rad Cult.
TEEN is the new project of Teeny Lieberson (previously of Here We Go Magic) joined by her two sisters Katherine and Lizzie, and Jane Herships who records as Spider. Here you can watch their video for “Electric”, directed by Sam Fleischner and Megha Barnabas. “Electric” is taken from the forthcoming debut album In Limbo, out on August 28 via Carpark and Mistletone Records.
For the second time in just over a week, I’m featuring another warped video from the mind of Yoshi Sodeoka. The Presets enlisted his aid for “Youth in Trouble”, the first track to be released from their forthcoming album Pacifica, out on September 14 via Modular. As someone in the comments accurately describes it, “I feel like I’m using a key generator”.
Last week Yeasayer posted an accompanying video of sorts for “Henrietta”, described as a vignette to take drugs to. In similar fashion, creator Yoshi Sodeoka has another visual trip for your eyes, and it’s for another new track “Longevity”. Both tracks are from Yeasayer’s forthcoming third LP, Fragrant World, out on August 21 via Secretly Canadian. (Update: you can now download “Longevity” for free by signing up to the mailing list below)
Here We Go Magic’s latest video for “How Do I Know”, focuses on a domestic dancing robot that starts to get between a man and his wife. To be fair, a dancing robot like this would be pretty amazing. “How Do I Know” is taken from the forthcoming album A Different Ship, out on May 9 via Secretly Canadian. Directed by Sean Pecknold.
Listen to a new Here We Go Magic track called “How Do I Know”, from their upcoming third album, A Different Ship, out on May 8 via Secretly Canadian. It will also be released as a 7” single on May 22.
Black Moth Super Rainbow are currently working on the follow-up to 2009’s Eating Us, after scrapping the majority of an album recorded in 2011 titled Psychic Love Damage. While I’m also a fan of their side projects Tobacco, and The Seven Fields of Aphelion, I’m pleased that they’re back as a collective. This is a new track called “Spraypaint”.
Analogue Monsta is a new collaborative project between beat makers Suzi Analogue and TOKiMONSTA. Here’s their first video for a track called “Time To”, it’s a psychedelic trip through a bizarre animated world. Directed by The Great Nordic Sword Fight.
